World Environment Day 2023 - #BeatPlasticPollution
Today (5th June 2023) is World Environment Day - and this years campaign #beatplasticpollution calls for global solutions to combat plastic pollution.
Our planet is quite simply choking on plastic packaging - here are 5 simple steps you can take to cut down your own plastic consumption 
1) Choose foods with no plastic packaging - buy fruit and vegetables loose and take your own containers to the deli counter. Why not visit your local market instead of a big chain supermarket? Not only do these traders often pave the way in plastic free packaging you are also supporting the local economy too! Win Win!!
2) Shop sustainably for cleaning products - invest in reusable bottles and refill with ocean-friendly products, free from harmful ingredients just like the wonderful Miniml products I stock in my shop.
3) Take a reusable cup with you when visiting your local coffee shop or cafe (many independents actually offer a discount if you provide your own refillable mug) and always carry a refillable water bottle with you. (Download the Refill app to see the closest locations to you offering free fills)
4) Choose plastic free personal care products - Many shampoos, body washes, lotions etc not only come in plastic bottles that take hundreds of years to breakdown, they are also a source of microplastics which get washed directly into our seas. Switching to solid versions is easy! Also think about purchasing a bamboo toothbrush instead of a plastic one next time yours needs replacing.
5) Always carry a reusable, plastic free shopping bag with you so you never get caught out with out one. String bags are ideal - they are light weight, take up very little room and can be chucked into the bottom of your handbag.
